Why metallic?

Metallic finishes use metallic flakes or mica to reflect light differently across angles — offering depth, sparkle and enhanced perceived value. In Ontario, UV exposure, road salt and temperature swings inform coat selection and clear coat thickness.

  • Durability: multilayer base + clear for protection
  • Appearance: flake size and orientation change look
  • Maintenance: recommended ceramic or polymer topcoat

Process & techniques

Standard process for a quality metallic finish at Offerdashpoint:

  1. Damage assessment & panel prep — feather, filler, sanding
  2. Primer and sealer application for adhesion
  3. Basecoat with controlled flake distribution
  4. High-build clearcoat and professional polishing

Choose flake size (fine, medium, coarse) and orientation method. Fine flakes give smooth metallic sheen; coarse produces a glittery effect. We show physical swatches during consultation.

We use spectrophotometry and test panels to ensure seamless transitions across panels, bumpers and trims — critical for partial repaints.

A high-build clearcoat enhances depth and protects metallic flakes. Optional ceramic coat increases gloss retention and chemical resistance for Canadian winters.

FAQ

How long does a metallic respray last?

With proper prep and clearcoat, 8–15 years is common; protection and maintenance extend lifespan.

Is color-matching accurate on older paint?

We use spectro-matching and test panels; older faded paint may need blending or panel replacement for perfect match.
